Parts Needed To Adapt 4-Way Flat To a 7-Way For Towing a Camper With a 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime

Question:

Ordering my brand new Rav 4 Prime I was told they only can install a 4-pin connector. I want to pull a small camper with a 7-pin connector. Do adapters really work well? Do I need additional equipment?

Yes, the adapters we have do work well and I have a couple options for you based on the type of brake controller you will want on your 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime.

First is the easiest to install. The 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L will accept the 4-way flat connector the RAV4 will come with. The kit includes a single power wire and circuit breaker you will run to the 12 volt battery. This will allow you to use the Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller # C51180. This brake controller uses power from the charge line to power the unit and send power to the electric trailer brakes when needed. It detects when the brakes are used by input from the 4-way. You will control this from your smart phone using the Curt Echo app.

If you prefer an in cab controller you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This kit uses a duplex wire so you have a wire to carry the power output from the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR. This controller uses a small dash mounted control knob that will allow you to easily adjust the brakes. This allows you to place it where it is most convenient for you and does not take up a lot of room on your dash.
