Recommended Air Bags For 2012 Ram 1500 Sagging When Towing Travel Trailer

Question:

2012. Ram ST 1500 Crew Cab 4WD 5.7 Hemi. I pull a fully loaded 33’ trailer with GVWR of 7,300 lbs. I can pull it without much trouble, however, when I load the truck bed up it does have a little hitch sag. I use sway bars and they’re great and help with load distribution but I’d like to find a good air lift suspension system. Any recommendations. I don’t know know if I’d like an automatic system or manual. Thank you.

Appreciate the photos, and they show you definitely have some sag, so air suspension is going to be exactly what you need to level out the ride on your 2012 Ram 1500. The best option for your truck are air bags that replace the factory jounce bumper, with the correct part number being the following:

- Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57365

These install where your truck's current jounce bumpers are, giving you the best support for the back end of your Ram. When you are towing and your back end sags like in your photos, the # AL57365 will engage to help level your truck, while also improving its stability and counteracting body roll.

To avoid any leaks when installing the air bags use Air Hose Cutter # AL10530.

As for an automatic system or manual, all air bags are manually filled (at a gas station for example) unless you add a compressor. It is something I definitely recommend because of how much easier it makes monitoring and maintaining the air bags. You can do it from anywhere with a wireless compressor that uses your phone or remote, and this is the route I would go. The best value for a wireless compressor is the Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System for Air Helper Springs # AL25980.
