Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L
Question:
This hitch installs like the OEM hitch hidden by the bumper cover, correct? Also, what wiring would you recommend to tow an RV 7 way? Mine has the tow prep package, but no hitch and I dont believe any wiring.

Yes, the Curt # C97JR will install behind the bumper and will be completely hidden with the bumper cover in place. For wiring, you will need to start with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK39VR. I would choose this over the Curt since we have found Tekonsha to be the most reliable. The wiring harness will plug into connection points behind your tail lights and provide you with a 4-way.
Once your 4-way is installed you can use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This kit comes with an adapter, wiring, and everything else you will need to upgrade your 4-way to a 7-way. This will also maintain the 4-way connection if you need it to tow a different trailer.
If the trailer has brakes you will also need a brake controller. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR. The main unit for this brake controller mounts in an out of sight location so only the knob will be visible in the cab of your vehicle. The knob controls the braking power and also acts as the manual override.
If you need a ball mount, check out the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. This kit has two ball mounts, one with a 3/4" rise or 2" drop and the other with a 2-3/4" rise or 4" drop. It also comes with a 1-7/8" and 2" ball, as well as a ball mount bag to store everything in.
