What Parts Needed to Connect Trailer with Round 5 Pin Male Connector to a Vehicle with a Flat 4 Pole

Question:

I have a LED lighted trailer with a Pollak 11-501 5 pin connector that I pull with a 2002 Honda Goldwing with a Pollak 11-502 connector. I would also like to pull the trailer with a 2014 Subaru Outback that has a flat 4 pin connector. The mating part of this connector has a white wire , 2 brown wires, a green wire and a yellow wire. Can I buy an additional Pollak 11-502 female connector and connect it to the trailer side flat connector wires to allow connection to the 11-501 trailer connector? Thanks,

If your trailer has stop and turn functions on separate lights (separate amber lights for the turns) you will need a vehicle-to-vehicle taillight converter harness for your Subaru that can separate the stop and turn functions. These functions are combined on a 4-pole flat connector. If this is the case you will need to fabricate your own custom harness from several components we can supply.

First you will need a trailer-side 4-pole flat connector to mate with the Subaru 4-pole. You can use part # HM48110. You will need taillight converter harness # 118158. You will also need the 5-pole round vehicle-side socket that you referenced, part # PK11502. Last, you will need butt connectors to splice the wires. You can source these locally or use two of part # 05731-5.

You will build the harness as follows. The green and yellow wires from the 4-pole will connect to the green and yellow wires on the input (left) side of the converter. The brown wire will bypass the converter and go directly to the 5-pole. The white ground wire from the 4-pole will require two wires be connected to it at the butt connector; one connects to the white wire on the input side of the converter (this completes the connections for the input side) and the other white wire from the butt connector will bypass the converter and connect to the ground pin on the 5-pole. The linked photo shows how such a harness will be assembled, but note that in this example the output side of the converter has a flat connector while yours will have a round 5-pole on the output side.
