On the 2022 Toyota Highlander all you will need will be a class 3 hitch. The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2 inch # e75ZR is confirmed for your vehicle.
The trailer hitch has a bolt-on installation with no welding required, and has a matte black powder coat finish which is over a protective base coat that offers a superior rust resistance.
The maximum gross trailer weight is up to 5,000 pounds and it has a maximum tongue weight up to 500 pounds. I would recommend checking your vehicle's manual to find the proper towing capacity for your vehicle.
The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # TK99FR will give you a 4-flat connector and will allow your trailer's stop, turn and taillights to mirror your vehicle's stop, turn and taillights. This custom harness plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the trim panel near the driver's side rear seat belt bracket. You will have to pull back the side trim panel to access this harness. The Mounting Bracket # 18144 will keep the connector stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch when not in use.
If your trailer has electric brakes you will need the universal 7 plug wiring # ETBC7, and a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller # 90195.
The Curt Towing Starter Kit # C45554 will provide you with a 8-1/4 inch long, powder coated ball mount with a pre-torqued hitch ball; hitch pin and clip; hitch receiver lock with keys; hitch cover; and a storage case.
I attached a couple installation video links below.
