Comparing Capacity of Curt and EcoHitch Trailer Hitch Receivers on 2022 Subaru Outback

Question:

I will be putting a hitch on my 2022 Subaru Outback, mainly to us for a 4-bike bike rack and occasionally for a cargo platform. A trailer may be in the future. My question is what about the Curt vs. Ecohitch Vs Drawtite hitches make the tongue weight and towing capacity so different? I see the fundamental design difference of the Drawtite, but the other two seem very similar. Does the E65ZR still exist? Thanks

The Curt # C67JR and EcoHitch # EH34FR vary based on the manufacturer testing. The EcoHitch tongue weight is higher based on the design of the hitch and the testing that was performed by the manufacturer. This is the same for the Curt, but based on this design and testing the # C67JR is only rated for 350 lbs.

More than likely this will not make a difference between them since you will be limited by the capacity of your 2022 Subaru Outback. Make sure to consult your owner's manual for your tongue weight capacity. Also, the E65ZR was replaced with the # e25TR. The design of this hitch was recently updated, just like the Curt # C67JR.

Realistically the hitches are all about the same in design and appearance so if you like the idea of having the higher tongue weight capacity I would choose the EcoHitch.

Since you may be towing a trailer in the future, you will also need wiring. The most reliable option is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118467. This plugs into the connection point in your rear cargo area and will provide you with a 4-way to power your trailer's signal lights.

If you need a ball mount, the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900 is a good option. This kit comes with a 1-7/8" and 2" ball along with a bag to store everything in.
