Availability of a 4.80/4.00 x 12 Trailer Tire and Wheel Combo

Question:

I bought a trailer with 4.80/4.00 x 12 inch tires and have been looking for a spare tire/wheel combo on your site and elsewhere. However, I have not seen this size available. This tire measures approximately 19.5 inches in diameter when inflated I triple-checked, so the 4.80 x 12 tire does not seem compatible. In fact, I am not entirely sure that the 20.7-inch tire would fit under the fender with suspension compressed.

What you have to remember is that the 1.2 inches taller # AM10002 tire will actually only be 0.6 inches closer to the fender because the extra height is distributed evenly above and below the axle. Take a look at the trailer and see if there is space enough for the extra 0.6 inches (just under 5/8 inches). If so then you can go with a 4.80-12 tire.

If there is not space enough then you would either have to go to a smaller tire size (all the way down to an 8 inch) or modify the fender or other parts of the trailer to fit. I have included a link to all of the tire and wheel combos we have in size 4.80-12.
