Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2022 Ford F-350 4WD Towing 5th Wheel

Question:

I have a 16,000lb 5er ~3500pin that I’ve pulled 40k miles happily with my 2013 Duramax 3500 4wd SRW without additional rear support. It squatted a little under 3”, which was OK but on the marginal side. I’ve recently upgraded to an F350 Powermax 4wd SRW and it seems to squat closer to 4”. I’m considering adding either Timbrens or Sumosprings to reduce the squat. About half of the miles I drive are without the 5er and I’d like to keep a nice ride with or without the 5er. Since the springs work in conjunction with either jounce do I need to add ones that are rated higher than my pin? What would you recommend? I’d prefer not the two-piece for simplicity and price, unless that would be lots better. Thanks

Since you don't have the 5th wheel half the time, and are concerned about unloaded ride quality, you definitely want the SumoSprings over the Timbren # TFR350SDJ. You also want to make sure the capacity is enough for your pin weight. This means you would need the 2 piece SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSR-128-47-2. The cost may be a little higher compared to some others but it will be well worth the investment on your new truck.

These SumoSprings have a capacity of 5,000 lbs and will help keep you level while towing your 5th wheel. In addition to keeping you level, they will also help to reduce sway along with bumps and shocks. They feature a microcellular urethane construction, a lifetime warranty, and are made in the USA. You do want to make sure there is a bump stop perch over your axle. If you do not have the bump stop perch you need the # SSR-129-47-2 instead.
