Curt 24" X 60" Cargo Carrier Capacity Calculation On a 2016 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hi. I am shopping for a hitch mounted cargo carrier. I recently saw a video by Curt regarding how to determine how much weight you can carry on the cargo carrier. It says Tongue Weight divided by distance from the hitch to the farthest part of the carrier is how much you can carry. Do you know if that is the Tongue Weight of the carrier or the car? I am now concerned that the carrier will be heavy enough that its not worth getting. I drive a 2016 Outback, and Im looking at either the fixed or folding Curt 60x24. Can you tell me how much weight will be safe for my car? Thanks in advance!

The video you saw on Curt's website about the dividing tongue weight with distance in feet of the carrier is referring to the weight of your receiver. So if you had the etrailer Receiver # e98847 on your 2016 Subaru Outback with a tongue weight rating of 600lbs, then Curt would recommend not exceeding 300lbs of weight including the 64lbs of the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18152. Or a total gear capacity of 236lbs.
