Can I Use My 2 Aventon Adventure Lectric Step-Thru E-Bikes With the Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR?

Question:

Thank you for the information. I measured and I have less than 5” to clear the bumper on my Ford F-150. I would love to get the Thule Easyfold XT. Could this rack work for me or do I need to stay with the Sport Rider SE?

From the sounds of your question, I assume you are talking about the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR. If this is the rack you are referring to, yes! It works with 20" diameter tires as long as you have the adapter # HLY24FR for each bike. This adapter does not come with the rack itself.

This rack is a great choice because it has a super high 80 pound per bike weight capacity. It also accommodates fat bike tires up to 5 inches wide (if you have them). As far as your step-thru model Aventon Adventure Lectric step-thru models, you do need bike frame adapter bar # 64005 for each bike. The adapter provides a straight, horizontal plane for attaching your bikes to the arms of the Sport Rider SE.

One thing you need to note is that the distance from the center of the pinhole of the rack to the closest part of the rack when folded up is 5 inches long. In order to make sure that this distance can clear your rear bumper, I recommend measuring the center of your hitch's pinhole to the outside face of the rear bumper. As long as that length is less than 5 inches long, you are good to go!

If you happen to need more shank length, you can add length by using a hitch extender like the Curt Hitch Extender - 8" # C45791. When using any type of hitch extender, you decrease the overall weight capacity of the hitch by 50%.

Feel free to respond to this answer with the year/make/model of your vehicle and I can recommend a great hitch for you if you need one.

If you are open to considering the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202, I definitely recommend that rack over the Sport Rider SE with the required hitch extender. And there are a few reasons why. First off, with the EasyFold XT, you do not need to use bike frame adapter bars because of the design of the independently-adjustable arms of the rack. Looking at the design of the Aventon Adventure Lectric step-thru model, you can attach the cradles to the the bike by the little downtube over the main tube (like the attached picture) or by the downtube post under the seat. In addition to that advantage, it comes with an integrated ramp that allows you to load the heavy bikes onto the rack without ever having to lift the bike off the ground. You also do not need to worry about using a hitch extender since the shank of the rack measures 8 inches from the center of the pinhole to the closest part of the rack. If you happen to have fat bike tires that are between 3 and 4-11/16 inches wide, you need the fat tire straps # TH985101 for both bikes.
