What Causes Pin Box To Hit Bed Sides On Ford F-450

Question:

I saw some other posts on people having their pin box hit the side rail and I am having the same problem with my Jayco 4113 it has a morryde pin box number Rpb72-1621shd. I can’t move it any higher on its mount and then raise my hitch and I’m pretty level at the point right now but I’m staying at a trailer park and I noticed a Montana fifth wheel down the way a bit and its pin box has a much steeper angle than mine. Is there a pinbox that is either slightly shorter since i have quite a bit of cab clearance or a higher angle?

In order to prevent the pin box from hitting the bed sides on the trailer you'll need to make sure you have at least 6" from the top of the bed side to the bottom of the trailer loft. The trailer may be level but you still need to make sure you have proper clearance in the above location to ensure you don't run into issues like hitting the bed sides. This may require adjusting the fifth wheel hitch head and or pin box. It may also be the case that the fifth wheel hitch you have currently does not offer enough lift to correct this issue and in which case you would want to swap this out for a higher lift option like the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package part # BWRVK3305 which offers up to 18-3/4".

In regards to the pin box, changing this won't change much since they are each designed to be about the same size as the one they replace but I have still attached some compatible options below.
