What Hub/Drum Bearings, and Grease Seals do I Need for My 3k Axle with 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern?

Question:

Good evening, Hoping you can help me find the correct hub for an enclosed Diamond Cargo single axle trailer. The sticker on the trailer reads: REAR 1356 KG 2990 LB. Ive measured the lug pattern to be 4.5 with 5 lugs. One of the studs stripped in the hub, so I would just like to replace the entire assembly.. hub, bearings, the works. Thank you in advance.

Since your sticker reads 2990 pounds, you have either a 3k or 3.5k axle. In order to identify what axle you have, I always recommend checking the bearing numbers from the hubs you have. In order to do so, you simply need to remove the inner and outer bearings from the hub and wipe off the grease. Once the grease is wiped, it will reveal the part numbers along the outer rim. I went ahead and attached a diagram to help you identify where the bearings sit on the axle spindles.

If you have an inner bearing number of LM67048 and an outer bearing number of L44649, you have a 3k axle. If you have an inner bearing number of L68149 and an outer bearing number of L44649, you have a 3.5k axle. Note that the outer bearings will be the same, so you also need to look at the inner bearing to confirm what you have.

For a 3k axle with 5 on 4-1/2 lug pattern, the correct replacement hub you need is the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum 008-418-02. For each of the hubs, you need 1 Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing - LM67048 # LM67048 and 1 Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing - L44649 # L44649. In order to make sure these are the correct hub and parts you need, I recommend matching your inner bearing and outer bearing numbers to make sure they are LM67048 and L44649. We currently do not have a idler hub (non-braked hub) with the capacity and lug pattern that matches your trailer.

As far as the additional parts you need, you also need the Grease Seal - Double Lip - ID 1.719" / OD 2.565" - for 3,500-lb Axles # 58846.

For a 3.5k axle with a 5 on 4-1/2 lug pattern, we carry the following options:

- Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K (if you have EZ Lube spindles)
- Dexter Hub/Drum # 84546UC3 (if you have standard spindles)
- Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 84545UC1-EZ (for non-braking axles with EZ Lube spindles)
- Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 84545BX (for non-braking axles with standard spindles)

All of these parts for a 3.5k axle come with bearings, grease seals, and races.
