Troubleshooting Trailer Lights not Working With Tekonsha Prodigy RF on 2013 Porsche Cayenne
Question:
Hi there - I was not able to pair the unit with the Cayenne, but was able to pair it with a friends 2013 Ford F350 SuperDuty. However, Trailer lights work, EXCEPT for the brake lights. The only time theyll work is when utilizing the manual override on the handheld unit. Same applies to the actual brakes - the trailer brakes are only applied when using the override on the handheld, but not via the actual brake pedal. Im at a loss.

The first thing I would do is attempt to get the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller working on your 2013 Porsche Cayenne. I would make sure you have power on your 7-way using a circuit tester like the # PTW2993. Since it works on your friends F-350 you at least know that it is functional despite the issue with the lights.
A lack of power is what would make the most sense since the remote pairing has nothing to do with the specific vehicle. If you do not have power then you will want to make sure the connection is clean, the ground is secure, and that there is not a short in the wire.
Unless you plan on towing with your friends truck all of the time it would make sense to see how the brake controller does with your own vehicle. That way you don't end up troubleshooting a problem that doesn't exist when you're towing with the Porsche, especially if it is a problem on the vehicle side with the F-350.
If you still have issues with the brake lights I would once again look at the ground connections. Make sure they are secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. Assuming they are, use the tester to check the wire going into and out of the brake controller. If the everything checks out on your wiring running into the Prodigy RF but not coming out of it it is probably a problem with the brake controller itself.
I have attached a helpful article on troubleshooting brake controllers for your reference.
