Troubleshooting Malfunctioning Trailer Indicator on 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost
Question:
I hook up the trailer and the truck tells me that the trailer is connected then says disconnected then connected then disconnected. After a few kms it seems to work fine. This did it on my old trailer, I have bought a new trailer and it is still doing it, I have cleaned the contacts already.

It sounds as if you have a short on your brake output circuit. Since you have already cleaned the contacts already for possible grounding issues, you may want to check the actual pin in your 7-way. The pin may either have corrosion built up or even bent. If either of those issues are present then that will create your inconsistent readings.
Another thing to check is the back of the 7-way, the wire connection point may have a short at that point.
If you find that the brake pin is damaged on your 7-way, then the Pollak 7-pole # PK12-707E is a good choice for a replacement.
