Using Curt # C13149 Class III Hitch Installed on 2013 Toyota Rav 4 as Lifting Point
Question:
C13149 hitch Can the plate at middle of the hitch be used as a floor jack jacking point for the 2013 Toyota RAV4? Appears the hitch will cover the normal jack point. Thank you.

Expert Reply:
I spoke with my Curt representative, who tells me that using the hitch as a lifting point is not recommended, as the hitch is not intended or designed for this purpose. According to the owners manual for the 2013 Rav4, the only recommended jacking points are the the notched areas in the pinch weld behind the rocker panel just behind the front wheel and just ahead of the rear wheel.
The plate or gusset you describe is actually welded to the top of the hitch, and is meant to strengthen and stabilize the welds that join the receiver tube to the hitch crossbar. When the hitch is installed, the tie down loop is removed, so the hitch could be used for that purpose, but not for jacking up the vehicle.
