What is the Ground Clearance Height of the Curt # C65FR on a 2022 Kia Seltos?

Question:

Can you comment on how much this hitch impacts ground clearance and departure angle for the Seltos? I see a previous question about this, but it was before you had installed the part and you did not have measurements yet. Checking in to see if you have any updates. Thanks!

Yes! We recently installed the Curt Hitch - 1-1/4" # C65FR on a 2021 Kia Seltos. As far as ground clearance on this vehicle, the ground clearance is 11 inches from the ground to the bottom edge of the receiver tube. I see from your vehicle input that you may have a 2022 model. While we do not have the exact ground clearance measurement for a 2022 model, the height rarely deviates substantially within one year of a given vehicle model.

As for a departure angle, I believe you are talking about going over curbs at the end of a driveway or a slanted surface. It truly depends on the slant on your driveway and the accessory you have on it. A 11 inch clearance is a pretty high clearance if you are concerned with nothing mounted on the hitch when going up a with a slant/curbs. I am confident in saying that without an accessory mounted, you will have enough clearance with most angles as long as the angle or curb is not extremely or abnormally sharp.

If you are worried about clearance on your vehicle, the absolute best solution is to use a hitch-mounted accessory that has a rise in the shank such as the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" Hitches - Steel - 300 lbs # 63155. With the Reese carrier, the shank has an additional 3 inches of height when installed on your hitch.

The use of your hitch and the slope of the ground/terrain ultimately determines if you need additional ground clearance height. Feel free to respond with what you plan to mount on your hitch, and I will be happy to provide you with extra ground height for you.
