Troubleshooting Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes Not Activating with a Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller
Question:
I have installed a tekonsha 90195 in my 2008 chevy and found I dont have trailer brakes. I rechecked the wiring under dash all good. I tried to adjust power out put still no brakes, this trailer does have hydraulic brakes and I do have controller set for that .I also tried manual brake lever nothing .

First thing you should do is check the brake output signal of the trailer connector to determine if the problem lies on your 2008 Chevy or on your trailer. I would use a circuit tester like our # PTW2993 for this. If you determine that there is voltage on the brake output circuit and 12 volt power circuit at the connector on your vehicle and your brakes are still not activating then the problem is on your trailer.
Does the actuator cycle on to build pressure when you connect it to your tow vehicle and the vehicle is turned on? If not, then the problem may be that the actuator is not getting the 12 volts it needs to power the unit. Typically, the 7-way of the trailer wiring powers the actuator through the 12 volt circuit. So you will want to check for voltage there as well. I attached a pic of how 7-way is typically wired for you to check out also.
I attached an FAQ article on troubleshooting brake controller installs for you to check out also.
