B&W or Curt Gooseneck For Flatbed Truck, & Where Should Gooseneck Ball be Placed

I have a question about a gooseneck hitch placement. I have a 2006 dodge 2500 short bed and I am going to build a flatbed for it. I was wondering if the gooseneck ball should be over the front axle in the center of the bed or if it should be in front or behind the rear axle. I would also like to know which would be a better brand to purchase B&W or Curt.

Good questions, and let's start with the better brand of gooseneck for your flatbed truck (which will lead to the proper positioning), and by far the best option is the B&W, which is the following part number:
