Should The Single Red LED Dot Light Be On at all Times On The Trailer Brake Controller?

Question:

A red single dot light stays on all the time, is this normal? New wiring kit and the controller I purchased from you last week. Thanks for any help.

On a trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 the single dot is telling you that power is going into the trailer brake controller from the main power wire. If your controller was hard wired to the battery this is normal for operation. Once you connect a trailer the display will change to indicate that a trailer is connected.

If you used a Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3025-P for your 2002 GMC Sierra the light should turn off based on the ignition switch power going to the brake controller. If this is the case you should have the vehicle wiring inspected at a service center.
