2012 Toyota Sienna Roof Rack Recommendation for Roof Top Tent

Question:

Hello, I have a roof top tent on my 12 Toyota Sienna and while it works, there is a lot of flexion in the roof rails and I was wondering about taking them off and putting something else in their place to bolt to the original OEM roof mounting points. I have looked at Yakima landing pads but am not sure if they will fit the Sienna. Also I would like a rail type solution so I could move things forward and back rather than 2 bars crossing right where the roof rail mounting hardware is. Got any recommendations? Thanks, P.S. I am not fundamentally opposed to rivet nuts if necessary.

For 2012 Toyota Sienna I recommend going with the Yakima JetStream roof rack setup. This mounts to the raised rails on your vehicle and it uses straps for the rails as opposed to the Landing Pad setup:

50" JetStream Crossbars - Black # Y00425
TimberLine Towers - # Y33TR
Lock Core Kit - # Y07204 (optional)

You can mount an aftermarket rail system to the roof of your Sienna but you'll have to remove the OEM raised rails to accomplish this. If you choose to do that then you can use the following:

42" Yakima Tracks - # Y01126
50" JetStream Crossbars - Black # Y00425 or Silver # Y00428
SkyLine Towers - # Y53TR
Landing Pad 1 - # Y00221 (you need 2 of these)
Lock Core Kit - # Y07204 (optional)

Please note that if you go this route the weight rating of your physical roof is unknown so I'm not sure if it will be up to handling the weight of a roof top tent either going down the road or at the campsite once it's being used.
