2017 Subaru Outback Wagon Parts Needed to Tow a Small Teardrop Trailer
Question:
I have a 2017 Subaru Outback. I need a towing hitch with a 2 inch ball for a lightweight RV. the Tag XL, maximum weight 2,200 lbs. I will need to connect the lights and brakes. Can you tell me which products I need? thank you

I recommend using the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989891 for towing with your 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon. This comes with a 3/4" rise/2" drop ball mount as well as 1-7/8" and 2" hitch ball, a hitch pin, and a ball mount storage bag for when you aren't towing.
For wiring I recommend the Curt T-Connector # C56040 because it has the highest amp capacity out of the wiring kits we have to offer.
If you don't already have a trailer hitch I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76227 because the crosstube is hidden so it looks better and doesn't impede on ground clearance like some of the other trailer hitches do.
From what I could see it looks like your TAG trailer comes with electric brakes. Usually when a trailer is equipped with brakes it's recommended to use them so you have the best control over your trailer. If you choose to use the brakes you need some additional parts and for that I recommend the Wiring Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L along with the Curt Echo Brake Controller # C51180.
Attached are some installation videos for you to check out.
