Parts Needed To Wire Redarc Trailer Brake Controller To a 2010 Nissan Xterra

Question:

I am in the process of buying a camping trailer which will have electric brakes. I am looking at the Redarc Two Pro brake controller. What parts do I need for my 2010 Nissan Xterra which does not have a factory tow package but does have a 7 pin trailer connector. Im not sure if the 7 pins are properly set up yet, but will work on that.

To install the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR in your 2010 Nissan Xterra you will first need to determine how the 7-way connector that you have on your vehicle is wired.

If it connects to the factory connectors already on the back of your Xterra like the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118266, then you will only need the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # RED39FR.

For a universal style 7-way that does not connect to the factory connectors you will either need to replace with the custom fit harness above or add additional universal wiring. The Curt Universal Wiring Kit # C51500 and Redarc Universal Wiring Harness # RED69FR will be needed to connect to a universal 7-way connector.

I recommend using the Universal Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-001 so that you will have a clean factory work.

Be sure to check the receiver that would have been installed is rated for your camper. We have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13514 which has our highest receiver rating. It is rated for a tongue weight 400lbs and 4,000lbs trailer weight. With a weight distribution hitch capacities increase to 600lbs tongue weight and 6,000lbs total trailer weight. Be sure to not exceed any weight capacities given by Nissan for your specific Xterra.
