Installing a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

RE: Wiring harness for a 2017 Subaru Outback. Your website indicates four options, but all are flat four for a utility trailer. I require a harness for an RV Pop-up. Solutions available??

That is correct for your 2017 Subaru Outback we only carry 4-way trailer connectors that are a direct fit. However, once you install the 4-way it can be converted to a 7-way, if that's what your trailer needs.

Of the 4-way connectors for your Outback I recommend the Tekonsha # 118467 because we always have great success with them. To install the harness you'll need to locate the factory connector in the Subaru's rear cargo area. Then install the included fuse. I've linked an install video for you.

With the 4-way installed use our # ETBC7 kit to convert it to a 7-way. This kit includes the 7-way connector and all of the necessary wiring to install a brake controller which you'll need if the trailer has electric brakes. Then for a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195 which is one of the best controllers on the market and it's easier to use because of the LCD screen. I've linked a video of the P3 and # ETBC7 being installed together in a 2011 Outback for you.

If you only need a 7-way connector but the trailer doesn't have brakes you can use the Curt Adapter # C57674 and just not connect the additional wires. It plugs into the 4-way and will provide those functions through the 7-way.
