How To Determine The Correct 5th Wheel Hitch Head Height For A 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500
Question:
How much clearance do you need between the top of your bed and the bottom of the 5th wheel
asked by: Dan S
Helpful Expert Reply:
You'll want to ensure that you have 6" of clearance between the bed rails and the nose of your 5th wheel and 16"-24" between the bumper of your truck and the body of your 5th wheel trailer.
To determine the height you'll measure the height from the ground to the floor of your 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500's bed and subtract it from the height from the ground to the king pin plate while the camper is level. The difference between those numbers is what your hitch height needs to be to ride level but you'll also want to ensure you have that 6" clearance between the truck and trailer.
The Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter - 20,000lbs # AM3200 has three adjustable height levels: 18" Upper position, 16-7/8" Middle position, and 15-3/4" Lower position.
I've attached some diagrams below to help show you exactly what I'm talking about but if you have any further questions please feel free to reach back out.
