Generally speaking, snow chains will give you much more traction than snow cables. For that reason, the best and safest chains for your size 225/40-18 tires on your 2018 Mercedes GLA 250 4Matic are the pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - 1 Pair # PWRS74. The reason why these are the safest chains is because the link thickness only measures 3.2mm. Also, the pewag chains comes with a self-tensioning feature that take away the inconvenience of having to tighten the chains after each trip. In order to ensure that you have enough wheel well clearance, there must be 37mm between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well and 15mm between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself. I recommend that you measure your wheel well clearance to make sure you have enough room to use the pewag chains. I went ahead and attached a diagram that shows these measurements. It is important to note that Mercedes recommends installing chains on the front tires only. As with all tire chains, I recommend consulting with your vehicle's owner's manual for more guidance.
