What To Do If I Have Aluminum Stems And Brass Sensors On The TireMInder i10 TPMS For RVs & Trailers

Question:

Im looking at the TM56FR. My trailer has 16inch 8-lug aluminum wheels with metal valve stems. A magnet wont stick to the stems, which are silvery in color. The threads are brass colored. What do you think I have...either aluminum or plated brass stems? What is the problem of using brass sensors on aluminum stems? Can the booster be installed on the rear of the tow vehicle instead of the front of the trailer?

Expert Reply:

If your stems are brass in color, they are most likely brass. The reason you do not want to use the brass sensors on the aluminum stems is because there is a chance you can get galvanic corrosion because the metals are not the same. But if you use Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors, 2 oz., part # 11755, when you install the TireMinder i10 TPMS for RVs and Trailers w/ Signal Booster - 10 Tire Sensors, part # TM56FR, you will no longer have to worry about this issue. It is a good practice to use the dielectric grease whenever you are connecting metals that will be carrying electrical current to reduce the chance of corrosion. With regard to mounting it on the rear of your tow vehicle, the closer you mount it to the front of your tow vehicle the greater the risk of signal interference. This will reduce the systems effectiveness.

I have included a product description link, a video installation link, and video review link below.
