The Malone SteelTop roof rack lets you carry gear and accessories on the roof of your vehicle with raised, factory side rails. This complete roof rack system includes 2 steel, square crossbars and 4 towers. The bars are compatible with most universal, clamp-on accessories and carriers, and the towers have built-in locks to protect the rack from theft. The rack clamps onto your raised side rails and tightens down with the included tool, so it's easy to remove and install.
Strong, Steel Crossbars
The durable crossbars are made of steel and have a black vinyl coating to protect them from corrosion and keep them looking new. The bars also have plastic endcaps to protect the interiors from the elements and to give your roof rack a finished look.
Durable Towers with Built-In Security
The towers are made of molded nylon that won't fade or wear down when exposed to the elements. Each tower includes a nylon cover with a built-in lock to deter would-be thieves from removing the rack from your roof. The covers also protect the towers' interior and hardware from the elements.
Easy Installation with Rubber-Coated Steel Clamps
The towers attach to your vehicle's raised, factory side rails with rubber-coated steel clamps. The rubber coating provides a superior grip on your side rails and protects them from damage during installation and use.
To tighten, simply turn the bolt inside the tower assembly with the included installation tool until the clamps are snug.
Rubber spacer blocks are included to fit smaller side rails. If the clamps don't tighten enough to your side rails, just slide a spacer block onto the clamps before tightening them.
Once assembled, the towers and crossbars stay together as one unit, which makes removing, storing, and reinstalling the system a snap. To remove, simply remove the cover and loosen the bolts inside the towers with the installation tool.

2017 Mini Clubman
These 50” rack and risers fit as advertised on our 2017 MiniCooper Clubman with use of the clamp adapter. Just finished testing them to transport two bikes up, over and back across the Appalachian Mts on both steep backwoods roads and open highway with zero problems. Unrelated to this product, I had a comparability problem with my Yakima bike rail clamps that are smaller than the roof racks diameter and require some finagling which others might not be able to make work. So check on clamp size comparability if these are to replace an existing Yakima roof carrier system. Again, this is not an etrailer product critique!

2020 GMC Acadia
The price point for these cross bars seemed very good, and after opening the box and examining the components, I was very satisfied with the quality. Installation was straight-forward and easy to follow, no troubles there. I'm looking forward to testing the durability of these cross bars by loading our cargo container on top of them for our upcoming Spring Break vacation. Oh, I especially liked that these cross bars came with a locking mechanism, included as a built-in feature with this great price.

2016 Chevrolet Equinox
I paid extra for shipping and it arrived a day late. The packaging was half open with the shipping label that looks as if it were cut. The inner bar falls out. There is scratches and small dents all over as if this was sent back from another customer. And, the caps are completely missing. How was this product even viewed as good to be sent to a customer, especially for the price.

3 star is for the product, but I should mention that eTrailer.com got 5 STAR for the service.
Now to the product:
Pro: Easy to install, light weight and seem strong/durable.
Con: wind noise
At 40mph the noise/whistling sound came in, and above 60mph is noticeably loud.
I don't have anything to compare, since this is the first crossbar I've installed.
I will try to move the bar around and see if it makes any difference.
The good thing is I can remove this crossbar (and it's easy and quick to do it) and just put it on when I need them, and therefore I'm keeping it. But I don't think I would recommend it to anyone, especially if they own the same car like mine, because maybe this just a car issue, many other reviewer shares good experience with it.
I will update this review if I can improve on the wind noise.

Leonard,If you are having trouble with wind noise I would recommend part # Y05017. This Yakima fairing will deflect the wind around your roof rack reducing wind noise.

I received my new "Malone SteelTop Roof Rack - Square Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Steel - 50" Long" by my doorstep today. The package was opened fully at one end, and it appeared that the UPS delivery person had set the keys from the box on my lawn next to the package that was fully open on one side, and partially open on the other. I removed my old roof rack cross bars, then cleaned the built-in raised side bars. I lubricated everything according to the instructions, and noticed there was rust on two of the tightening/loosening screws. When I installed the new units, it was hard to fit the 'pedestals' over my RAV4 side rails without the included spacers. Once I got them hand tightened to where I wanted, the plastic was so bent or warped that the lock pieces would not fit on. I had to loosen to the thresh hold where they wiggled to where I couldn't wiggle them. That's where they started stripping the paint off my side rails. Eventually, I tightened them to a medium ground, got it all assembled, and drove around with surprisingly no whistle. I wish these didn't come rusted and that I would have bought the next size up, and would use longer fastening screws so that the rubber spacers could have prevented paint damage.

2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

2010 Subaru Forester
Easily installed, sturdy well-made rack, great price. This rack is 2" wider than a 4' sheet of plywood making it ideal for transporting sheet goods. It will also be great to carry ladders which I do frequently for painting. Because it is a Malone brand it will pair perfectly with my Malone 2 kayak rack, (also a great product, but that's another review!)

2018 Jeep Cherokee
So far so good, a little wind noise but I was used to it within a day. Doesn’t bother me just alert your passengers so they are not startled when in the car.
They took a bit of time to figure out because I kept trying to snap them into place but you don’t need to do that. If you sit them in place as much as possible, start tightening the screw and it will pop itself into place. After they were tightened, I pulled down just a bit to make sure they are locked tight.
Overall super quick delivery!
One downfall was only with the delivery but that is bc of USPS. It was raining and the mail person left the box on the porch in the rain vs 3 inches further under the overhang.

I was pleased with the service that I got from etrailer and the roof rack was easy to install. Beware that the square bars are noisy. I bought them to save money and I think that if I had it to do over I would pay the extra money for a streamline model. I will definitely use etrailer again.

2017 Toyota Sienna
The crossbars I recieved from etrailer worked out great. They will help us add space for our family vacation.The customer service I received from Ashley was top of the line as well. I called on a Thursday night and asked if I could possibly get it by the following Wednesday and she said I should recieve the crossbars no later than Tuesday. That was perfect for me. On Saturday I received a message saying my order has arrived. How about that for service! I will definitely use etrailer again.

This roof rack seems better designed than the Thule rack I used for 20 years on my previous car -- and locks are included! This is quicker to install or remove and probably as strong. I hope it lasts as long. My Thule accessories fit, and I added Malone foam blocks.

2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek
I ordered this and got it a couple days later! It is heavy duty and doesn’t feel cheap. I had bought one, from elsewhere and one of the key holes was broken. Returned it, got a different one, the knob on one side was stripped. Returned that one and got this one, for half the price I spent on the others! Haven’t hauled anything on it yet but it is definitely a lot more secure and hefty than the others. Can’t wait til kayak season

I liked the product out of the box, and appreciated steel instead of aluminum. They were plenty sturdy to hold up what we needed, but not to stay on the vehicle apparently.
The parts where the bars fit across the factory-installed rails seemed fairly sturdy compared to the previous bars I had. So after securing these brand new sturdier cross bars to the parallel factory-installed rails on our 4Runner, we loaded our two kayaks on top and headed off to the Buffalo River. A little over halfway there, the cross bars ripped off the factory rails and our kayaks flew off our roof into the road behind us. Thankfully the kayaks weren’t damaged and the cars behind us didn’t wreck.
We are fairly certain we installed the bars correctly; the screws were tightened to the point of lightly denting the factory parallel rails, and they fit snugly. We installed the covers and locks. When we inspected them after the accident, it just looked like the screws vibrated loose. Maybe we should’ve used some thread-locker or something? But good bars cannot fly off your vehicle with your cargo.

When transporting kayaks, it is important to make sure both the bow and stern are tied down to your vehicle. Securing the bow and stern help reduce the movement of your kayaks during transport. [2015 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring] Super easy to install and has held up great (currently at 5 months). We mainly use it to attach our bike racks. I'll also use it to haul lumber/sheet goods every now and then. No issues with slipping, even when getting near that weight limit. I was originally considering OEM Mazda crossbars before coming across these. The extra weight limit is what sold me. Would definitely recommend.

A year later and the racks continue to perform flawlessly. I even clipped a parking garage overhead beam with a bike attached and the racks came out unscathed as did the bike, too, fortunately thanks to Yakima break away straps performing to design as well-. I suspect that the racks may outlast the Mini Cooper!
