I did some research on your 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500, and I discovered that only 4-wheel drive models can be safely flat-towed with all four wheels on the ground. If you have a 2-wheel drive model, you will not be able to flat-tow. As far as the gear you need to tow, you will need to shift the automatic transmission to PARK and a manual transmission to FIRST GEAR. Turn the engine off, but leave the ignition on and set the parking brake. You will then need to shift your transfer case to NEUTRAL. As always when flat-towing, I recommend confirming with your owner's manual to make sure that you are going through the correct procedure.
If you need the components to flat-tow your 4x4 Silverado 1500, I recommend the following parts:
- Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-523199-5
- Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar - 2" Hitch # RM-520
- Roadmaster Safety Cables # RM-674
- Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251
- Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-152-1676-7
The great thing about the Roadmaster base plate kit is that it has a streamlined design and is made in the U.S.A. As far as the Falcon 2 tow bar, it allows for you to easily release your vehicle even in uneven ground and simply slides into the RV's hitch receiver without the need of a ball mount. In addition, you will also receive the proportional action of the SBS Stay-IN-Play which applies the Silverado 1500's brakes at the same level that you apply the brakes to your RV. With the diode kit, this will allow you to connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your Wrangler's lighting system.
This setup will give you everything you need in order to flat-tow your 2021 Silverado 1500. If you need any assistance installing any of these parts, I went ahead and linked videos that walk you through the process.
