What Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2020 Subaru Outback with 225/60-18 Tires?

Question:

I need chains for a 2020 Subaru XT, 225/60/R18. Owners manual states not enough clearance for chains salesman tells me that cables are ok. What do you recommend for this model and tire size. Thank you

You are correct in saying that the owner's manual for your 2020 Subaru Outback states that you should not use tire chains because of the lack of clearance. The reason why manufacturers say this is to avoid any liability/warranty claims that may result from damage from tire chains.

With that being said, we do offer tire chains that require minimal clearance to decrease the probability of damage on your 225/60-18 tires. Cables like the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains - 1 Pair # PW1046 only require 15mm of clearance between the inner tire sidewall and the wheel well wall. If you are wanting a great pair of tire chains that require a small amount of clearance, a great fit is the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern # TC1555. The Titan Chain Allow chains have an inner circular covering that helps keep the chains in place to avoid any contact with struts or other components in your wheel well. These chains also require 15mm of clearance.

For both of these options, I recommend the Glacier Multi-Arm Rubber Adjusters - Light-Truck Chains - 15" to 18" Rims # PW105 to ensure that you will continuous tension pulling on the chains. This will give you a proper fit during travel.

I went ahead and attached pictures of the inner sidewalls as well as videos of these options to provide you a better perspective.
