Mixing The Old With The New On My 2010 Toyota Prius With Thule And Inno Roof Rack Parts
Question:
I have a 2010 Prius. I also have old Thule squarebar without the bottom slot gear for an older car, including 50inch bars, ski rack, and foot hardware for an older jetta model. Is there a way to reuse as much as my existing hardware as possible with a fit kit for my 2010 Prius? Also, alternately, depending on mpg impact, I might want to invest in an aero design, like inno aero. Is it possible to switch out the square clamps on the bottom of my ski rack see photo with aero clamps? Thanks!!!

I can definitely find a solution that will work for your 2010 Toyota Prius. Unfortunately, it will not be a Thule roof rack. The Thule foot pack and fit kit for your Volkswagen Jetta are not compatible with the new Thule products. Our best solution would be using the Thule square crossbars with an Inno roof rack. The Inno roof rack you need will consist of the following:
Inno Feet for Square Crossbars - Naked Roofs - Black - Qty 4, part # INSUT and
Custom Fit Kit for Inno XS200, XS250, and INSU-K5 Roof Rack Feet. part # INK865.
You already have the 50" square crossbars. This rack has a weight limit of 140 lbs and comes with locking torque knobs to secure the rack to your vehicle. Down the road if you want a rack that is more aerodynamic you can switch out the entire rack, except for the fit kit, for this Inno setup:
Inno Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 48" Long and 51" Long - Qty 2, part # INXB123-130 and
Inno Through Feet for Aero Crossbars - Naked Roofs - Qty 4, part # INXS250.
You will use the same fit kit. This roof rack will also have a 140 lb weight limit. The aero crossbars will help reduce wind noise and aid with fuel efficiency. The crossbars have T-slots, so they will work with all channel mounted roof rack accessories while still working with those roof rack accessories that mount to elliptical shaped crossbars. The locking covers will help secure the rack to your vehicle. Lastly, it appears that you have a Thule ski rack. You would be able to mount this rack to the Inno aero bars with the Mounting Kit for Thule Flat Top Rooftop Ski and Snowboard Racks, part # 7533998. With this mounting kit you will be able to continue using your Thule ski rack with your new roof rack.
I have included product description links, a video of an Inno rack being installed on a 2014 Toyota Prius, and a video review of the Thule mounting kit below.
