Low-Profile And Quiet Roof Rack For 2017 Infiniti QX50 With Factory Side Rails

Question:

We have 2017 Infiniti QX50 with factory rack and crossrails these crossover rails screw into the factory rails, offer less capacity and are 24inch OD. We now realize we need aftermarket cross rails. We also have a Thule Pulse M cargo box 16inch high. And, I would remove the Malone rails when not using the cargo box. I considering the steel square bar version however several comments mention noise. I could not determine if the noise comments referred to hauling bikes canoes or when no object was present? Will noise be present when a cargo box is present? Would adding a fairing to this version address our noise concerns? The Aeroflow2 is overfill for our application however reduced noise, again which points to my question, when using a cargo box is aero vs square offer superior noise reduction? If valid, -Will Malone Aeroflow2 50inch fit our configuration? -Will I need to remove the factory cross rails? not a problem. -What is the elevation of Aeroflow? We need to determine if we can park car in garage. Please offer any advice/ recommendations. Thanking you in advance!

When mounting a cargo box or other accessory on your roof rack, or simply just adding aftermarket crossbars that sit above the side rails, you will always have some wind noise. That said, aero bars such as Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars 50" # MPG215 or 58" version # MPG216 are going to have less wind noise than square bars due to the rounded aerodynamic design. They also feature a t-slot channel on top which makes them compatible with t-slot accessories, whereas standard square bars do not have this channel on top.

You can go one step more and add a wind fairing like Rhino-Rack Fairing 38" # RRRF2 to further reduce wind drag and noise. This still will not completely remove the noise but it will help. The Malone crossbars and fairing will fit well onto your factory side rails, but if you have factory crossbars that run left to right across your roof then you will need to remove those prior to installing these new crossbars. This system will add about 3" to the height of your factory side rails. If this is too tall then your best option is Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar Roof Rack # JA7956. This is a very low-profile crossbar setup that sits nearly flush with your side rails, adding only 1-3/8" to the height of your side rails. The Rhino-Rack Fairing 38" # RRRF2 will also fit this. I attached demonstration videos for you to check out.
