Can Curt C13146 Be Installed on 2021 Honda Pilot with Hands Free Liftgate Option
Question:
I don’t think the hands free tailgate is particularly useful. Can this hit hitch be installed if the sensor isn’t relocated? I understand the sensor will be blocked and that feature won’t work but besides that can this hitch be installed? We had a hitch we bought from you for our crv and it worked great for almost 7years before we traded in the car! Just want to use all the accessories we already have.

According to the folks at Curt, their # C13146 Class III hitch WILL fit 2021 Honda Pilot models equipped with the hands-free liftgate feature, but unless the sensor relocation kit is obtained from Honda, the hitch will block the liftgate sensors, rendering that option inoperable. In other words, the sensors won't prevent the hitch installation.
One other installation note: if your spare tire is mounted on a wheel larger than 18 inches, you won't be able to stow it under the vehicle once the hitch is in place. If your Pilot has the 245/50-20 stock tire size, you'll want to make sure you have the compact spare.
If you'll also be using the hitch for towing, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like # 118286 for a 7-way connector or # 118760 for a 4-pole. For a ball mount, use # 2753 and # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball.
