Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Controller Issues

Question:

I have a 2018 RAM3500 Laramie with a 40ft gooseneck trailer. Whenever I set the gain, it eventually resets itself to 0.0 while driving and isnt adjustable after that unless I turn the truck off/on. Wiring is good. Pigtail connection hooked up at the bumper or in the bed with same issue. Pigtail plug has been replaced. No hydraulic leaks. Its worth saying that even when it resets the gain to 0.0 I still feel pressure in my jigsaw brakes. Feels as though the trailer gain is at maximum. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hotshot driver and this is costing me time and money.

There could be a couple of different possibilities to your trailer brake issues. The first thing you can check is the brake controller itself, there could be an internal issue that is causing it to malfunction. You can check the brake controller by using the manual override.

If that doesn't correct the issue you can test the blue wire and the red wire for shorts. I have attached a link to the steps to help troubleshoot brake controllers.

If you determine you need a new brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195. One of the reasons I recommend this brake controller for you is the customized display that will inform you of any potential problems.
