Best Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 with OEM Rail Kit Towing Jayco Fifth Wheel

Question:

I have ordered a new gmc 2500hd 6-3/4’ bed. So cannot measure it yet! With 5th wheel prep package 1. Currently have 2015 Chevy 2500 6 -1/2’ bed truck. Have Reese slider hitch that I’ve never used the slider function with my current camper. Pin location is 40.5” from glass of truck bed. As mounted into truck a couple inches ahead of axle centerline 2. Does anyone know where pin location would be with a fixed BandW companion fixed position hitch? Would I gain much clearance? 3. I realize safe bet is buy a slider hitch, I realize I can measure clearance etc. which would show too close to do 90 turn now. But paying $600 extra for a heavier hitch to move around hurts the wallet and my back! 4. Also…who knows exactly what camper could be in our future. Most new ones seem to have curved noses.

Since you plan to remove the hitch fairly often I would recommend going with a hitch that fits directly to the OEM rail kit of the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 as that will lower the amount of components that would need to get removed and installed in the bed of the truck. Plus it's less to store in your garage. So for a hitch I would recommend the B and W Companion hitch part # BWRVK3710 for a few reasons. One being that this is widely considered the nicest hitch in terms of ride quality and overall build quality, another reason is that it breaks down into smaller sections easier than other hitches so it's easier to install and remove.

This is a fixed hitch which would be a better choice than a slider hitch since you said you never used the slider mechanism of your last hitch. This saves you weight and cost plus the fixed hitches are quieter since there are fewer moving parts.

I attached a review video link for this hitch installed in a similar Sierra 2500 as well.

You would have more clearance with the Companion hitch part # BWRVK3710 and your new truck as you can offset the hitch slightly forward and your new truck has a slightly longer truck bed so you for sure would not need the slider version. There isn't a wide variance between the location of the fifth wheel hitch/rail kits between trucks as most locate the rails so that the hitch will be right over the rear axle center. The head of the Companion hitches do allow for some offset though relative to the base of the hitch unlike most other hitches.
