Changing From 14 Inch Wheels & Tires to Smaller For Backing Trailer Into Garage

Question:

I am looking for 4 smaller tires for my dual axle 2021 Malibu LSV 22. The tires would only be used to back into the garage for winter where the current tires 14 are 4-5 inches too tall. The trailer has surge brakes on it. Can you recommend any tires or wheels you have?

You can do this, but you will need to change both the wheel and tire because tires that fit onto a 14 inch wheel aren't available in sizes smaller than ST205/75R14 which are 26.3" in diameter. So what you would need are new 12 inch wheels with tires. You also still need to make sure you they have the needed capacity for your loaded boat and trailer, so you'll need a load range D or E tire.

The other thing you need to ensure is your wheel's bolt pattern, which is very likely 5 on 4-1/2", but if you aren't certain, I've added a link below to a printable bolt hole template for you. Having said all that, what you will need is an option from Kenda. We have the Load Range D (1,220 lb capacity per tire), the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" Galvanized Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM31202.
