Recommended 26 Long Double Eye Leaf Spring For 4500 lb GVWR Trailer

Question:

Hi, I have an older, unmarked flat bed trailer 12x6. I believe in a former life it was used to haul a Miata ~2.7k? to the track. Being unmarked, I dont know an exact GVWR, but expect it is around 4.5k. The frame is comprised of 4inch Channel, it runs low boy tires rated at 2335lbs, and has a 2x3 box iron axle with 2x2inch spindles welded on. The hubs are 12inch with 25580 inner bearings and LM67048 outer so I think the axle is rated at 5.2K. The leaf springs are double eyed 26inch with 4 leaves . Hanging, there is 3.25inch clearance between the axle and frame. Unloaded there is 2.25inch between the axle and frame. When loaded at ~2.5K 1 cord dry pine firewood, the frame bottoms out on the axle and the tires rub the fenders. Would replacing with new leaf springs for a 5.2k axle remedy what I am interpreting as excessive ? Thanks!

You can absolutely replace the leaf springs with stiffer ones since you are getting axle to frame contact when loaded to around 2500lbs, but doing so will stiffen up the unloaded ride of the trailer.

Since you are thinking the trailer has a GVWR of closer to 4500lbs then I would go with the etrailer Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # e27SR that have the same 26" length you are needing, but will be a bit softer than the 5200lb springs you mentioned.
