Options for Replacing Double Eye Springs on 60 Year Old Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a 60 year old trailer with double eye leaf springs that measure 32 inches from eye to eye. The gross weight with the boat is a little less than 1500 pounds. I cant find any eye to eye spring of this length. What would you recommend I convert to? I think a slipper spring would put the axle in the same location without major changes to the trailer. Would you recommend this? Thanks,

In this case I would choose a new set of double eye springs and then weld new spring hangers accordingly. I have attached a link to our double eye springs for you. For example, you could go with the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring, # e66SR, which has a 1,250 lb spring capacity (2,500 lb axle capacity).

Since your boat trailer is 60 years old it is very unlikely that you are going to find parts that will work without any modifications and if you were to choose to switch to slipper springs, you will still have to have new slipper spring hangers installed.
