Can My 4 Cylinder 2011 Equinox Tow a 1,500 Pound Trailer?
Question:
I have a 2011 Chevy equinox LT 4 cylinder. I am curious if I can tow a 1500lbs boat? Im on the fence with this one.

From what I could find, the 4 cylinder options of 2011 Chevrolet Equinox are rated to tow 1,500 pounds at the maximum. This can be verified by checking the inside door jamb on the driver door. There will be a label/sticker with all the capacities your vehicle can handle. As long as it confirms you can pull 1,500 pounds, you will be good to go. However, I will say that you should watch the weight when fully loaded to make sure you do not exceed your max capacity.
With that being said, the etrailer.com Custom Class III Hitch # e98865 will definitely fit your vehicle and I included an install video for you to check out. This will end up being rated higher than your vehicle at 3,500 pounds towing and 350 pounds of tongue weight. This is due to it fitting both the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder options of the Equinox.
I also suggest installing the Tekonsha # 118494 wiring harness. This will be a plug and play wiring harness that does require one wire run up to the battery, but will get the lights on most trailers that do not use electric brakes up and running.
The last thing you will need to complete a towing set up will be a ball mount. This will depend on how much drop or rise you will need, but the Curt Fusion Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # C45134 will include a pin/clip and has a 2 inch ball pre-installed. This will also have a 7,500 pound towing capacity, but will only have 2-1/4 inches of drop.
