Is The 12 Volt Power Wire Required To Be Ran To The Battery On My 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

Question:

The installation video just shows the controller connecting to the existing wiring supplied in the Palisade. However the instructions say I need to run a 12v circuit to the battery. Is the 12v circuit absolutely required?

Stealth Hitches has updated the Towing Kit # 391CONVPT5L portion of the Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit # 391HYUNPALIS19T to no longer require a separate power wire and inline fuse be ran to the battery. The power wire has been moved to the vehicle connection plug and will now use the factory wiring and fuse in your 2021 Hyundai Palisade to power the converter and 7-way charge line for the trailer.

If you have one of the older kits that is before they made the change, there are 3 wires that are seperate for the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit # 391HYUNPALIS19T.

First the black wire that is run to the battery is for the charge line circuit. This is only required it you are towing a trailer that has electric brakes for has a battery that needs recharged by the vehicle when towing.

Second the blue wire is for a brake controller and is only necessary if your trailer requires a brake controller for the brakes.

Lastly the purple wire is for a reverse light circuit. This is necessary if your trailer has reverse lights or uses a surge type brake connection that has an electronic lockout for backing up the trailer.

For most small trailers you will not need all these connectors and will only need the 4-way flat portion for the running lights and tail lights.
