2-Bike Rack Fit on Curt Hitch C11474 on 2016 Volkswagen Jetta GLI SE
Question:
HI, I have a 2016 VW GLI SE. I want to make sure that I can combine this Thule 2-bike rack TH9045 with this hitch: Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4 Item # C11474 It appears everything would be fine, but I wanted to check on clearances. Thanks!

It was a smart idea to check, and when we test fit the Curt Hitch # C11474 on a similar model year Volkswagen Jetta we found the distance from the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper was 5 inches, and the T2 Classic requires that distance to be 3-1/2 inches or less. That said, we do have a very similar 2-bike rack that will work for you! So what you can use for your 2016 VW Jetta GLI SE is the following:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11474
- Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # SH12G
The closest part of this rack from the hitch pin hole is 11 inches, so you will be able to mount and use it The rack is compatible with the Curt Class I hitch for your Jetta, and even easier to use than the T2 Classic. The Sherpa is a wheel-mounted rack like the Classic, but instead of a threaded hitch pin, the T2 Pro rack has a knob that allows you to easily tighten it in the shank.
So instead of getting down on your hands and knees and threading in a hitch pin each time you just want to load and unload your bike rack, all you have to do is insert the rack in the hitch, put in the hitch pin, and turn the hand knob at the front of the shank. That's literally all there is to it. The Sherpa also comes with an integrated cable to lock your bikes to the rack, which is something that is needed separately for the Classic.
