Draw-Tite 75776 M10 Bolts Won't Thread Into Nuts Welded Into Frame of 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:

The four bolts that bolt into the existing nuts in the frame do not seem to be the right size. My Hyundai is a 2017 Santa Fe XL M10 x 1.25 x 30 bolts are these the right size ? Thanks

You're correct, the Draw-Tite # 75776 hitch uses M10 x 1.25 x 30 bolts to attach the hitch to the nuts welded into the frame.

It's extremely rare that the wrong hardware is sent out with a hitch, I've only seen it happen once or twice in almost 15 years here. It's certainly a possibility but what's much more likely is that you have road grime and corrosion built up on the threads of the nuts that are welded up into the frame member which is preventing the threads from catching. This is very common in rust belt states that use salt and de-icing chemicals on the roads in the winter.

Give each nut a good dousing with a spray lubricant and then a good scrubbing with a battery terminal brush like # DW00254. You might need to do this a few times.

If that fails to fix the issue, take the bolts to your local auto parts store. They'll have a gauge to check and ensure that you do indeed have M10 bolts.

If you find that you have the incorrect bolts, let us know and we'll get you the correct replacements.

I've linked to installation instructions and an install video for the # 75776 hitch.
