Adapter to Use Bike Rack With 2 Inch Shank in 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
Question:
I purchased a Kuat Transfer 2 from you a couple of years ago. Since I have traded in my Ford Explorer for a Ram 2500. The class 5 hitch with 2 inch reducer does not allow the hitch lock pin to extend through enough to engage the lock. Do you sell an alternate hitch pin so I can use my same lock?

We do have a solution for you here, though there isn't an option for a longer hitch pin to use a bike rack - including your Kuat Transfer - with a 2-1/2 inch hitch. There isn't a longer hitch pin because the 2 inch shank would still not be fully inserted into larger 2-1/2 inch receiver, causing all kinds of stability issues and generating a lot of movement and force at its connection point.
So in order to your Transfer bike rack with your Ram 2500 that has a 2-1/2 inch hitch, what you will need to is is use a hitch reducer and extender:
- Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender # HR26
What this does is insert into your 2-1/2 inch hitch to effectively give you a 2 inch hitch that will allow you to carry your Kuat Transfer. The only thing to note is that the adapter will require its own hitch lock, the Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches # e98881.
