No, there is no need for an anode rod in water heaters such as your Atwood and the Dometic RV Water Heater, # DMC74FR. The manufacturer uses a clad aluminum lining that protects against corrosion eliminating the need for an anode rod.

I can't speak for all water heaters but the gas/electric options we carry, the Dometic RV Water Heaters like part #DMC74FR which is what I recommend use both gas and electric for operation not either or so yes, it still must be vented.
