Question:

I need to purchase a baseplate and tow bar and wiring harness. Which brand and model would you suggest? I want the simplest installation. Thanks

For the 2014 Ford Edge, I suggest:

- Base Plate, Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit, # 4408-1

- Tow Bar, Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520

- Safety Cables, # RM-643

- Wiring, Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit, # RM-15267

- Supplemental Braking, Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System, # BLU37TR

I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520 as this is a simple, cost effective, crossbar style tow-bar. There are higher end options available but this gets the job done. For safety cables use, # RM-643, I like the coiled design that helps keep the cables off of the ground.

I suggest the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit, # RM-15267 for lighting. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

For supplemental braking, required by law, I suggest the Blue Ox Patriot 3 Radio Frequency, Portable Braking System, # BRK2019. This is one of the easiest systems to set up and use. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Most likely you will also need a high low adapter so that the tow bar will be level when you are flat towing. I attached a link to a page that has all of the ones we carry.

For the 2014 Ford Edge, a 4 cylinder engine cannot be flat towed. For someone that has this vehicle I suggest the Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes - 4,250 lbs # RM-2050-1. With this, you will need the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End # PK12706 to allow trailer brake function. You can of course choose to tow 6 cylinder models this way too.
