eZ-Latch Coupler

Cast Coupler Cutaway

This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic. Disengaging the coupler is just as effortless. Simply lift up the handle and the coupler socket will automatically release its grip on the ball.

Demco eZ-Latch in Use

The contoured, low-profile design of the latch handle helps protect the coupler from damage by allowing any potential hazards - from debris on the road to your ball mount backing into the coupler - to simply slide over the top. This helps prevent anything from getting under the latch handle and releasing the ball, and it can also limit any damage to the coupler should an impact occur

Unlike most couplers, which have a pin hole on the handle latch, the eZ-Latch coupler features a hole on the side of the coupler itself. Inserting a coupler lock through this hole will keep the latch from lifting, preventing disconnect and theft.

Sturdy, Corrosion-Resistant Construction

Made of sturdy steel, this coupler features a durable powder coat primed paint that is designed to limit rust and corrosion. This finish, which allows for easy welding, has a 500-hour salt spray rating, making the coupler perfect for marine use.

The eZ-Latch's sleek, ergonomically designed handle is constructed of an impact-resistant polymer-nylon-resin compound that provides the flexibility and strength needed to bounce back from a collision. The handle is corrosion-proof, allowing it to withstand whatever the road and the elements dish out.

Video Transcript for Review of Demco Adjustable Trailer Coupler - Adjustable eZ-Latch Coupler - DM612466-97

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Demco easy latch trailer coupler. This is gonna provide a connection for your 2 5/16 inch hitch ball on your tow vehicle so that you can hook your trailer up to your tow vehicle and take it down the road. And this does feature the easy latch mechanism that's going to ensure a nice, simple and secure hookup and disconnect. I've got a 2 5/16 inch hitch ball here to show you how this is gonna work. So unlike your other couplers out there on the market that you have to open up and get prepared, this will connect to your ball even when it is in the closed position.

So you just drop the coupler over the hitch and it's going to snap in place there and give you that nice solid connection. And then when you're ready to disconnect you'll just lift up on that latch and lift jack your trailer up and you will disconnect. So very simple to get connected there. Now this will mount onto this three inch wide by 12 inch tall adjustable channel that will be welded onto your trailer. This does have six holes here that will provide five different positions.

So you can change your coupler's height depending on the ball height of your tow vehicle. So if you are gonna be using one trailer and multiple vehicles to tow it you can switch that up to make sure that your trailer is gonna be riding nice and level. They do give you these grade five bolts to get this secured in place. So it's gonna give you a nice solid connection having those four bolts there. Once you get them tightened down it's gonna provide a nice rattle free secure connection for you.

This is constructed of a cast steel for our coupler here. It's made here in the USA so you can trust it is gonna be good quality. It's gonna provide a 2,000, or sorry, a 20,000 pound weight capacity and it is SAE J684 certified so you can trust it is gonna be good quality. And you can see it also has this powder coat finish on the coupler that's going to offer excellent corrosion resistance with 500 hour salt spray rating. So it's gonna be great for your marine applications.

So if you're wanting to put this on your boat trailer will hold up really well for you. Our latch handle here is a nice low profile design and it is constructed of a durable polymer nylon resin composite and so it is going to be very, very durable as well as corrosion proof. So you're not gonna have to worry if you are putting it in the water and that sort of thing. It's not gonna rust or corrode. You can see we do have a hole here on the side that's going to be for a coupler lock that is a 5/16 inch diameter hole. So if you do want to add on a locking pin you can slide that through and that will prevent the latch from lifting so that no one can come along and disconnect for you. We do have those locking pins that are sold separately just wanna make sure that you've got a 5/16 inch diameter and it will need to be three inches in usable span there to ensure that it's going to match up. One thing I will point out with this if you are needing to adjust that height pretty frequently it'd be kind of a pain to have to undo these bolts so it might be a little bit easier for you to switch it out to a pin. We do have that etrailer hitch pin and clip that you see on the screen there. So you would just need two of those. They are rated for the same weight capacity and they have a four inch span. This is about three and three quarters of an inch on the outsides here. So that will give you plenty of room so that you can switch out and put one on the top, one on the bottom. That way you can just very simply pull out the clip and pin and then adjust your coupler to whatever right height you need. But that's really just for those situations where you're gonna be changing that height pretty frequently. If not, these included bolts are gonna do a great job and give you a little more security, less rattle and that sort of thing. One last dimension I want to give you for your information. This is going to be little over eight inches we'll call it eight and one eight of an inch long. So keep that in mind. Make sure that it's gonna work for your setup dimensions and that sort of thing. So if you are looking to weld on a new coupler to your trailer, this is gonna be a great way to go. And that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Seems like a quality product at a good price, you will receive exactly what you see. Box it was shipped in was a little beat up due to the items weight and handling, but didn’t affect contents.

by:

Do not buy.False advertising. You will be sent a white one but charged for red.

We have gotten it updated now. These have all been changed to white.

by:

Just would’ve have been great to received the color I ordered. Not a deal breaker though. Ended up getting the primer color instead of the red at least no price difference

by:

I wanted peace of mind towing equipment without the loud pintle hook.
This is overkill for what I need but is exactly what I was looking for.
The items came quickly, the price is fair, I would buy again.

Awesome coupler!!! Lookin for a robust coupler…. Look no further!

by:

The coupler that came with our teardrop did the job, but getting hooked up and secure on the ball was a real pain that would take multiple attempts to reposition it before it dropped fully in place. I like the Demco eZ-latch. So much better. I uploaded 3 photos: 1) original coupler, 2) trailer frame with new holes drilled and old holes filled with Bondo, 3) Demco coupler in place. The changeover was very easy.

by:

It is the best used yo have a the older style i was always worried if it had latched correctly but with this latch system I dont have to do anything i dont even have to see it i can just hear it click when its latching on its own and i know its right dont forget to buy the pin for it i have actually bought two one for each of my trailers

by:

Great upgrade to my heavy trailers. Would be 5 stars if the locking pin hole would accept a larger diameter lock or a padlock.

by:

The hitch is excellent for our 14,000lb equipment trailer.
Only issue is the hole for the padlock was too small for any locks and we drilled it out to accommodate one.
Con- Shipping was not very good. It was returned to the dealer twice because it was sent via United Postal Service and our shop has not Post office box. Only a location address. The USPS does not take packages to our location. We could not seem to get the package sent via UPS or FedEx to us.
Only time this has happened when ordering from etrailer.

by:

The ease of latching and not having to lift the latch handle is very nice and unlachine it's a breeze, works very well very happy with the coupler

by:

Was the perfect part to replace the pintle hitch that was previously on my 15K trailer.

by:

Very good quality, construction, and finish. This was used to replace a 5000# rated coupler on my RV trailer that was just not strong enough. It has an extra 2-3" of length than the old coupler so make sure your safety chains have enough length to accommodate the extra length. One bonus for me was that the extra length was just enough to allow me to open the back door of my SUV with the trailer hitched (which I couldn't do before). The DEMCO coupler does take a 2 1/2" wide hitch pin /lock which is different than most couplers.

by:

I’m a 75 year old disabled woman who was about to give up traveling due to the efforts to hitch and unhitch my trailer. I got this new hitch installed and it changed my life; it is effortless. I’m on the beach now while a winter storm is raging around the U.S. thank you so much for a hitch that changed my life.

by:

I didn’t use the bolts it came with. Just got two grade 8 bolts like my pj trailer came with, easier to adjust.

by:

Heavy duty for sure. Drilling 1/2” holes in 1/4” thick angle iron on the trailer required more than a hand drill, but other than that installation was simple. Removing the original coupler was a chore because it was welded on both top and bottom. I had to use a hacksaw (3 blades), 2 lb mallet, large crowbar, steel chisel, grinder. Fortunately I had all that, and I’m very pleased with the result.

by:

We really like these new Demco eZ Latch styles.

by:

Great product! This thing's built like a tank. We're always pulling the heaviest things possible with our trailers and this stands up to the job.

by:

This is the second one I have owned and they work real good. No problems hanging up.

by:

When my old coupler failed I was very happy to find a bolt on coupler this heavy as most are weld on for a trailer this heavy. I wish I would have changed the coupler years ago. I always had trouble with the old one. This one is so easy to latch and unlatch from my truck. It is great quality.

by:

It's held up well after a year of abuse. We've fitted all our trailers with these couplers for uniformity, and haven't had any troubles.

by:

Exactly what I needed to replace the sloppy pintle hitch on my trailer I’m rebuilding.
