Determining Which Replacement Hub and Drums and Braking Assemblies Fit Older Camper Axle
Question:
I have an older camper trailer I converted to a utility trailer. It is a single axle trailer with 4 bolt Dayton Fayette wheels. and worn out disabled electric brakes. I need to update the electric brakes and drums. I have 12” wide drums inside diameter. 2” wide brake shoes. I can’t seem to locate any new drums that have the 4 bolt configuration for my wheels. I’m not opposed at all to buying new 5 bolt drums and brakes along with new wheels if it means getting my trailer road worthy. Also not opposed to a whole new axle assembly with heavy duty springs. I have a digital micrometer so I can get any spindle measurements necessary. please let me know what options I have or any measurements needed.

To determine the correct replacement hub and drum assemblies for your older camper converted to a utility trailer you will need to find the bearing combination.
The easiest way to do this is removing one of the hub and drum assemblies and looking for the bearing numbers stamped in the face of the inner and outer bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.
If your bearings are worn to the point that the bearing numbers are not readable you will need to use digital calipers # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindle in the locations shown in the included diagram.
If you can provide the above information I would be happy to check if there is still a replacement hub and drum assembly available for your current axle, or if the only option will be replacing the axle all together.
