Can Weight Distribution for 8,000 lb Trailer be Used on 2,000 lb Trailer

Question:

I have a Aliner travel trailer that weighs slightly over 2000lbs and has a tongue weight of around 250lbs. I am pulling it with a jeep that squats over 2”. I want to try to level it without airbags while pulling the trailer. I am only going to use this set up for 8 months and then transfer it to a 6300lb Airstream. Is it ok to use a weight distribution system that is rated at 8000 lbs on a 2000lb trailer.

If you were to use a weight distribution system that is rated way too high for the trailer you'll end up with a very harsh ride quality. I'd have to recommend you stick with a system that is rated properly for both trailers.

The part # BLU47FR would work great on a trailer that weighs 6,300 lbs but for the lighter tongue weight you'd need something like the # BLU36FR which is rated for tongue weights between 200-600 lb.
