How To Upgrade an 8K Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System to a 10K System

Question:

Hello. I have a new 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2800BH that I tow with my 2010 Ford Expedition with Extra heavy duty tow package. Our first time out and I though it swayed a lot more than expected, especially when larger vehicles went by. I expected some but not this. The experts where I bought the camper did the install using the Blue Ox Sway Pro BXW0750. My camper max weight loaded is not to exceed 7995 lbs. I know the typical rule of thumb is 10-15 of the loaded trailer weight. That puts the tongue weight at 795 max at 10 which is over the Maximum 750lbs. of the BXW0750. I would think the BXW1000 would be a safer bet however I am asking other experts like yourself what you think? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want to be safe for my family and buying a F250 is out of the question right now. At the weight station loaded my SUV and Trailer was as follows. SUV only, 6200lbs. SUV and trailer were 13900lbs which puts my trailer itself at 7700lbs. More than I really wanted but I weighed it the way I was going on a trip. Thank you.

I have great news for you, you don't have to buy a new system to get a higher capacity. The spring bars on the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control part # BXW0750 can be swapped out for the Replacement 10K Spring Bars for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System part # BXW4007 which will then give you more of a safety margin and most likely help reduce the additional trailer sway you are experiencing.

Please note, the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle also gets calculated into the total tongue weight figure to base a weight distribution system off of. I would say the above is your best option at this time to keep both you and your family safe while on the road.
