Recommended Timbren Axle-Less Suspension And Disc Brake Kit For Retrofitting 1974 European TT
Question:
Im rebuilding a 13foot 1974 European travel trailer that currently has a single Porsche-Hahn torsion axle and hydraulic surge brakes. As cool as it is to have the original equipment, the non-standard dimensions mean I need to replace the axle and entire braking system. The Timbren 2,000 axle-less suspension seems to fit the bill because of its weight capacity and 4 on 4 mounting pattern. Can hydraulic surge brakes be added to this system since it already has the hubs? If so, is there a complete parts list available? This assumes well need the whole lot: braking actuator, hydraulic line kit, discs, etc. Thanks for your help!

I have a different option for you, but there is not a 2000lb Timbren Axle-Less suspension that has a brake mounting flange and a spindle that works with hubs that have the 4 on 4" bolt pattern. The # A12RS440 you were looking at does not have a brake mounting flange.
Instead you will need to go with the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - Straight Spindle - Regular Tires - 2,000 lbs # ASR2KHDS01 for your 1974 European Travel Trailer. This option uses 3500lb braking assemblies and has a brake mounting flange needed to mount the brakes.
For disc brakes you will need the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 10" Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet - 3,500 lbs # K2R35D with idler hubs # Q-HUB84545.
For brake lines I recommend the Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit # 15SI-BLKIT, and for a surge brake actuator compatible with hydraulic disc brakes I recommend the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Disc Brakes - 2" Ball - Zinc Plated - 7,500 lbs # 099-175-20. This actuator fits standard trailer tongues that are 3" wide, and is designed specifically for trailers with disc brakes.
Now with this setup you will need to go with wheels that are 14" or 15" in diameter with the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern so I included out selection of wheels that will fit for you to look through.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
