No Power to Trailer Brake Controller on a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 with OEM Tow Package
Question:
Red wire in pin D, fuse underj Hood is good. Connector installed in second receptacle from left, With trailer connected no lights,screen is blank. Why is the illustration in the installation depicted with connector lock lever shown upside down? The only way it can be installed is with the lock lever up.

Just to make extra sure, the red wire should be directly next to the blue wire on the harness. The black wire should be above (or below depending on how you are holding the connector) the blue wire. And the white wire should be in the opposite corner from the blue wire like in the picture I have included.
When plugged in, the black wire should have 12 volt power. If it does not then you will check the under hood connections and make sure the corresponding fuses are in the right places and not blown. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2979 if you need one to test the voltage on the black wire.
If you have power to the black wire and still do not get power to the controller, temporarily try moving the ground by pulling the pin out of the connector and attaching it to a bare metal surface. If it works then there is a bad ground and I recommend relocating it by running it through the firewall to the negative battery terminal.
If the ground is not the issue and there is power to the black wire then most likely something is wrong inside the controller and it will need to be replaced. I have included a video link and FAQ link that should help make sure the installation is all correct.
